Gregory Christeas learned a lot from his mother, who always encouraged him not to be afraid—just put the colors on the canvas!
Picasso later influenced Christeas’ work during their time together in Paris, when Christeas sought refuge from a military dictatorship in Greece. Picasso recognized Christeas’ internal struggle and said, “You must fight for what you love the most.” These encouraging words sent Gregory back to Greece, putting his art on hold while he fought for his country’s freedom.
With the dictatorship successfully removed, his career flourished with exhibitions across the EU and the USA, culminating in a pivotal show at the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004, where he featured 125 artworks. The Minister of Progress honored Christeas and his freedom fighters as National Heroes for defeating the dictatorship and restoring democracy in Greece in 1974.
Today, Christeas teaches art on his YouTube channel, where he always encourages his viewers to get the colors on the canvas and fight for what they love the most.
