About the Artwork & Waterfront Series

Blue original abstract painting by Gregory Christeas is an industrial-oil work on canvas. Painted in Greece, it combines the visual energy of the Waterfront Series with personal memories of resistance, dictatorship, and the continuing search for freedom.

Powerful fields of blue and violet dominate the canvas, interrupted by white gestures and smaller passages of red and gold. The contrasting marks rise, break apart, and reappear across the surface, giving the composition a sense of struggle, movement, and renewal. Blue was featured in Gregory Christeas’ landmark Art and Freedom exhibition at the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004.

The work transforms difficult memories into a visual affirmation of resilience. Each energetic mark carries history forward while allowing Greece to emerge as an enduring symbol of democracy and freedom.

Gregory Christeas creates infinite abstract forms that transform like a wandering spirit in search of the realization of beauty. The Waterfront Series was developed over decades of exploring Abstract Expressionism, capturing light, water, architecture, and movement into layered compositions.

The Waterfront technique became the birthplace of the Parallels Series. Many works in this collection, including Blue, were featured in landmark international exhibitions, giving them significant and verifiable provenance.

By applying industrial pigments in multiple layers, Christeas creates bright fields where color and texture become structural, tangible elements. His paintings reveal radiant layers that balance chaos and serenity, transforming raw emotion into visual poetry.
