Parthenon Impressions abstract paintings by Gregory Christeas are original industrial-oil works available directly from the artist’s studio. Inspired by Christeas’ memories of the Parthenon—a timeless symbol of light, form, and endurance—the works were first exhibited in Art and Freedom at the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004. More than 100 paintings emerged from this vision.

Christeas created the collection with industrial oils on heavyweight paper, applying the Waterfront technique he had developed in earlier paintings. Vertical and horizontal movements pass through the compositions, organizing shifting reflections, fragmented forms, and layered fields of color. The resulting surfaces evoke sea, stone, architecture, and changing Mediterranean light without depicting them literally.

The Parthenon Impressions also reveal an important stage in Christeas’ artistic development. Their parallel movements anticipate the more forceful combination of lines, forms, color, and movement that emerged twenty-five years later in the Parallels Series.
