The Christeas Tower in Agios Dimitrios, Mani, stands as a monument to centuries of defiance. Built before the Greek Revolution of 1821, it sheltered Captain Christodoulos Christeas and his family, who fought with courage and distinction in the War of Independence. His son Nikolakis and grandsons Panagos, Stylianos, Christodoulos, and Stefanos carried arms against Ottoman forces, famously firing the cannon “Kopsoheila” that struck Ibrahim Pasha’s flagship in 1826. Nearly two centuries later, Gregory Christeas carried this spirit forward, becoming a national hero as a leader of PAK in Greece who helped bring down the dictatorship of 1967. The tower remains a living symbol of freedom, heritage, and resilience.
