About the Artwork & Parallels Series
Christeas Castle is an original blue-green abstract painting by Gregory Christeas from the Parallels Series. Deep blues, turquoise, aqua, green, metallic, and fluorescent passages move across the canvas through layered textures and rhythmic patterns. The surface creates a sense of movement, depth, and changing light while remaining completely abstract.
The title Christeas Castle carries a deeply personal connection to the artist’s ancestral heritage in Mani, Greece, where the Tower of Capetan Christodoulos Christeas still stands in Agios Dimitrios. Built before the Greek Revolution of 1821 and officially declared a Historic Monument, the fortified tower symbolizes generations of courage, independence, and resistance. The Christeas family played an important role in Mani’s struggle for freedom, including their participation in the Greek Revolution of 1821 and the defense against Ibrahim Pasha’s invasion in 1826. Although the painting does not depict the tower, its title establishes a dialogue between ancestral memory and contemporary abstraction, expressing the enduring spirit of strength, freedom, and identity through color, texture, and movement.
This blue-green abstract painting invites the viewer to discover forms that appear, disappear, and transform with continued observation. Dense passages of color emerge against darker areas, suggesting structure, atmosphere, reflection, and motion without depicting a specific place. The balance between luminous color and deeper blue tones gives Christeas Castle a strong visual presence while maintaining a sense of calm.
The painting was created with specialty acrylics on stretched canvas, including metallic and fluorescent pigments that respond differently as the surrounding light changes. These shifting effects allow the artwork to reveal subtle variations throughout the day and create a more dynamic viewing experience.
Gregory Christeas developed the Parallels Series through six decades of exploring Abstract Expressionism. His compositions use tension, contradiction, layered color, and gradual revelation to encourage an active relationship between the artwork and the observer. Rather than presenting a fixed image, each painting invites continued observation, inquiry, and personal interpretation.
Christeas Castle can be displayed in multiple orientations, allowing the collector to experience the composition from different perspectives. It is hand-signed by the artist and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Christeas Castle is a one-of-a-kind original artwork shaped by luminous color, layered texture, movement, changing light, and a personal connection to centuries of family history, revealing a different visual experience with each encounter.
