About the Artwork & Waterfront Series

Saronikos Sea 2004 by Gregory Christeas was featured in his landmark exhibition Art and Freedom at the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004. Measuring 27″ × 39″ × 1¼”, this artwork was created using industrial oils on canvas, offering a powerful visual experience that merges historical resonance with Abstract Expressionism.

The painting was inspired by and created in memory of the sacrifices of the Greek Freedom Fighters who fought against the Greek dictatorship that began in 1967. Their courage helped restore democracy to its birthplace in July 1974. Layered industrial pigments and expressive vertical lines evoke the rhythmic movement of water alongside the enduring strength of the human spirit.

Gregory Christeas creates infinite abstract forms that transform like a wandering spirit in search of the realization of beauty. The Waterfront Series was developed over decades of exploring Abstract Expressionism, capturing light, water, architecture, and movement into layered compositions.

The Waterfront technique became the birthplace of the Parallels Series. Many works in this collection, including Saronikos Sea 2004, were featured in landmark international exhibitions, giving them significant and verifiable provenance.

By applying industrial pigments in multiple layers, Christeas creates bright fields where color and texture become structural, tangible elements. His paintings reveal radiant layers that balance chaos and serenity, transforming raw emotion into visual poetry.
